About Courts Financial Group in Winnipeg

Ed Kurtz Insurance Services Inc. was founded in 1977 by Ed Kurtz and he opened an office in the Courts of St. James Mall, 2727 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, in 1986.

 

In 1990, Ken Kurtz, previously employed in the Employee Benefits office of Great-West Life in Toronto and Winnipeg, joined the company.

 

In 1991, Kerri Kurtz joined the company after successfully attaining a sponsorship through Portage la Prairie Mutual Insurance.

 

In 2010, Ryan Kurtz joined the company after graduating from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Commerce.

Ed Kurtz began his career in the life insurance business in February 1976 as an in-house agent for The Great-West Life Assurance Company in Winnipeg. He progressed over the next several years to supervisor and associate manager. In 1984, he took over as Winnipeg branch manager for National Life of Canada (now Industrial Alliance). He decided to resign as manager and become a totally independent broker in April 1986 and set up a store front office in the Courts of St. James Mall. He has owned and operated Ed Kurtz Insurance Services Inc. since 1977 and registered the marketing name of Courts Financial Group in 1993.

 

He provides ideas and solutions for clients in matters relating to business preservation and succession, insurance, estate, tax and retirement plans.

 

Ed is a long-standing member of the Financial Advisors Association of Canada (Advocis) and the Conference for Advanced Life Underwriting (CALU).

Ken Kurtz graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) degree in 1980. He trained and worked at The Great West Life Assurance Company in the Employee Benefit Offices in both Winnipeg and Toronto. Ken joined Courts Financial Group in 1990 and works with families and businesses in wealth creation and preservation techniques. Many local small business owners have migrated to Courts Financial Group/KJ Kurtz Insurance Services Inc. when looking to provide employee benefit and retirement programs for themselves and their employees.

 

Ken was previously active on the Board of Directors of the St. James Assiniboia Minor Baseball Association and a past President of the Woodhaven Park Community Centre. He also helped establish and fund the Matthew Le Nabat Memorial Scholarship Fund and helped raise awareness for the Manitoba Schizophrenia Association and the Winnipeg Pet Rescue Shelter.

Kerri Kurtz obtained her General Insurance license in June 1991 through the Insurance Council of Manitoba and is the General Insurance Agent representing Kurtz Insurance Services Inc.

 

As an independent broker, she advises clients of their options through various insurance companies to tailor a solution to their general insurance needs. She can offer competitive quotes on your Homeowner, Commercial, Tenant, Liability, and Errors and Omissions insurance.

 

Kerri belongs to the Insurance Brokers Association of Manitoba and Winnipeg Professionals Business Group.

Certified Financial Planner with Courts Financial Group and Financial Advisor with Investia Financial Services Inc.

 

Ryan Kurtz joined Courts Financial Group in the fall of 2010 after completing his Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) Degree from the University of Manitoba.

 

Ryan is passionate about helping clients achieve their financial goals through a holistic approach advising on assets, debt, risk and tax.  He recently received his CFP and CIM designations and is a firm believer in continuing education.
